General Information & FAQs

RECREATION LEAGUE INFORMATION

Baseball is the American pastime, and it gets its start in the hearts of young players. That's why we are pleased to offer our Recreation  League for kids who want to play the game in a less competitive environment.

In the HBA Rec League, youth from preschool through sixth grade have a safe place to learn the fundamentals of the game while getting fresh air and exercise...not to mention fun with their teammates!

Rec League FAQ

What equipment do I need to play rec league?
We ask that each child have his/her own baseball/softball glove. Beyond that, all necessary equipment will be provided by the HBA. Players are allowed to bring their own bats and helmets, but it is not necessary.

Where are games played?
Given the quickly expanding number of youth in the Harrisburg area, all game locations will be determined after registration closes. Generally speaking, most teams will play in Harrisburg. However, we partner with other communities for Minors, Majors, and 2nd and 3rd/4th Grade Softball, so those games may be held in other nearby communities.

What  about rainouts? Will they be rescheduled?
We all know the weather in South Dakota is unpredictable. We will make game delay/postponement/cancellation decisions in a timely manner and will communicate with you about any make-up games.

How do I know which program to register my child for?
Programs are based on the grade your child is currently enrolled in for the 2024-25 school year. You can learn more by visiting our
Program Description page.

I'm interested in volunteering, but coaching isn't my thing. How can I help?
We get it. Coaching isn't for everyone, but we still would love your help! Many coaches appreciate having assistants or team coordinators to keep things on track. If you'd like to help in these capacities, make sure to indicate your interest on your child's registration.

How can I register my child to play?
Registration will open on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. For best pricing, make sure to register by Saturday, Feb. 15. Final registration for the 2025 season will close on Friday, March 14.

Sponsors Needed

During the 2024 season, we had 78 teams playing in our rec league! Each year we rely on the support of generous sponsors to partner with us to bring this programming to our area youth.

Your organization's name and logo will appear on the team jerseys, and kids will be running all over town wearing your company name throughout the summer and beyond. Sponsorships are $300 per team, and we will do our best to honor requests you may have to sponsor a specific team or age group.

To sponsor a team (or two!), please complete our online sponsorship form. For more information about sponsorships, contact Adrienne McKeown, Director of Operations. You can also indicate your interest when you register your child for the league.
